The Garlando World Championship Series 2009 tournament was the third station of the ITSF World Championship Series Tour. There were many players from countries which play normally on other ITSF tables and also a few "new" countries (e.g.: Finland, Croatia, &) had been represented. At all there were players from more than 25 different countries. The opening ceremony took place on a large and classy scale and in the end we introduced the 12 National teams who played in the National team event. For the first time all the results were also available live in the internet. Also the spectators could watch the most important games via live-stream for free in the web. Both features were available on the official website of the ITSF World Championship Series (www.itsfworldtour.com). The tournament was covered by Kozoom, the production company which filmed the World Cup last January. The Eurosport 2 TV channel will then broadcast three 26-minute features on this event. RESULTS: There took place two big surprises at the tournament. The first highlight was that Frederic Collignon didn´t win neither Open Singles nor Open Doubles. The Austrian Wolfgang Reszler and his partner Pavol Kovacik from Slovakia beat Frederic Collignon and Billy Pappas in the Open Doubles Final in an amazing game in the fifth set 5:3. On Sunday Billy Pappas beat his partner Frederic Collignon in the Open Singles Final match in only 17 minutes. The second (negative) highlight was that the Austrian Nationalteam couldn´t defend his title in the Nations Cup and lost for the first time ever on Garlando. After beating Hungary 6 times in a row since 2004 Austria lost in the Quarter final in overtime against a strong opponent who also won the nations cup after. World Champion Verena Rohrer won again Women Singles and with her partner Melissa Mosser Women Doubles. Both titles in the Junior disciplines went to Alexander Markin from Russia.
